Neo Faliro is a district of Piraeus at the beginning of the area of Falirikos bay. There are sources documenting the existence of an ancient quarter called Echelides. Its borders begin from the Church of Panagia Mirtidiotissa and end at the Kifissos River while it borders east with the municipality of Moschato, north with the municipality of Agios Ioannis Rentis, while on the west it is a continuation of Piraeus.
The district of Neo Faliro began to be created in the 1850s-1860s. The first settler and resident of Neo Faliro was allegedly Giannopoulos, whose house was on the plot where the Aktaion Hotel it was subsequently built and today there is an apartment complex among with the Metropolitan Hospital.
Neo Faliro is connected to Athens and Piraeus by all means of transport, by road, as well as by electric train, and is also the starting point of modern tram lines.
The former grand mega bike racetrack, erected to be used in the first modern Olympic Games of 1896, was converted into a stadium called George Karaiskakis in 1964.
In Neo Faliro you can see important neoclassical renovated buildings and villas of the 18th and 19th centuries, several abandoned neoclassical mansions, old working-class and modern buildings.
