Schinias Beach is a seaside area of northeastern Attica and more specifically, it is located at the northeastern edge of the plain of Marathon. Schinias has one of the largest beaches in Attica, for which it is a popular destination for seabathers, mostly in the summer. Moreover, Schinias has one of the largest pine forests in Greece. Thus, the area has been declared as a national park and belongs to the Natura 2000 network. The well-known battle of Marathon was held at the western end of Schinias beach in 490 BCE. The Marathon Tumulus, which is the burial mound (Greek tymbos, tomb), or “Soros” that houses the ashes of 192 Athenians who fell during the Battle of Marathon, is near this area.

The rowing track for the Olympic Games in Athens in 2004 that has a capacity of 14.000 seats, was created at the Schinias area.
