Vilia, formerly called Idyllia, is a mountainous village of Attica built on the slopes of Kithaironas. They are located 56 kilometers northwest of Athens. They are built amphitheatrically, at the eastern side of the Kithira Mountains and at the foothills of Lestori peak.
Vilia’s altitude starts at 500 meters and ends at about 700 meters. It is a small town in Western Attica and is administratively owned by the Municipality of Mandra – Idyllia and until recently it was the seat of the homonymous municipality.
It has a population of 1.269 inhabitants, according to the 2011 census. The region relies on agriculture, livestock, beekeeping, fishing and resin farming, and on some tourist resorts.
In the small town the visitor meets relics of the Byzantine and Christian period. Some of them are the Church of the Transfiguration, dating back to 1893, built by the architect Ernesto Ziller, the Temple of Pammegist Taxiarches of 1637, the Church of St. George, the Virgin of Goura in Lestori, Saint John in Philippi, the Church of the Dormition of the 14th century AD and many others.
