Pyrgos is a city in the northwestern Peloponnese, which is the capital of the Prefecture of Ilias, as well as the seat of the Municipality of Pyrgos. According to the 2011 national census the city had a population of 24.359 inhabitants.

The city of Pyrgos is 308 km far from Athens via Patra and 293 km far from Tripoli, 20 km far from Ancient Olympia and 13 km far from Katakolos, which is considered its seaport. It is the administrative and commercial center of the wider area and the seat of the Municipality of Pyrgos.

During the Revolution of 1821 Pyrgos played an important role thanks to the contribution of its inhabitants to the national liberation struggle, which was also the first Greek city destroyed by the Turks. The city was particularly developed at the time of the grape trade (19th century – 1930s) due to its geographical location.
