Vouliagmeni is a seaside settlement, part of the Athens Town Complex, located 25 kilometers south of downtown Athens. It is built on the coast of the Saronic Gulf. Together with the islet of Hydrousa they constitute the Municipal Unit of Vouliagmeni of the Municipality of Vari–Voula-Vouliagmeni.
Its population, according to the 2011 census, is 4.180 inhabitants. It owes its name to the homonymous lake created by the sedimentation of the soil in the past.
The east area is the rocky slope of a foothill of Mount Hymettus, and the main urban city is built there, the local elementary school, the post office, banks and the town hall.
The western side, is covered with pine trees and consists of two peninsulas, Megalo and Mikro Kavouri (\”Big Crab\” and \”Little Crab\”) that feature sandy beaches in between rocky shores, luxury hotels, the local high school, the picturesque chapel of \”St. George of the Kavouri\”, two marinas, an aquatic sports club (the \”Nautical Club of Vouliagmeni\”), a sports club (soccer, basketball, volleyball, tennis) and restaurants, taverns and cafeterias on a beachfront area.
