Tolo (formerly known as \”Toulon\”, \”Minoa\”) is a village in the prefecture of Argolida, built along a large beach on the shores of the Argolic Gulf. It was administratively owned by the Municipality of Asini until the end of 2010 when the Municipality was abolished and incorporated into the Municipality of Nafplio. Its population, according to the 2011 Census, is 1.460 inhabitants.

Tolo is known for its significant tourist development, by taking advantage of its long beach and proximity to Nafplio, which is only 8 km away.

In 1686, during the Sixth Venetian-Turkish War, the troops of the Venetian General Morosini landed on the deserted Tolo beach, from where they then headed north to occupy Nafplio and Argos. The settlement of Tolo was created several years later, after the liberation of Greece.

With Kapodistrias’ resolution, refugees from Crete settled in the area who had been persecuted for many years had no permanent place of residence in the Peloponnese and elsewhere and lived as refugees.

The settlement was originally named Minoa by the name of the mythical king of Crete. This name was not retained and eventually they kept the region\’s oldest name.
