Galatas is a seaside town in northeast Peloponnese with a population of 2.592 inhabitants. Galatas and Poros are just opposite, and are separated by a narrow path. Galatas regularly runs ferries to Poros. It is a small mainland town with a high school, medical center, a church, banks and a new seafront plaza overlooking Poros Island.
Galatas existed as a settlement since the late 19th century. However, it began to grow after 1920, when many Arcadians descended on the area selling milk to the locals, and that is how it was named Galatas meaning milky.
The area is known for its Lemonodasos a vast orchard of lemon- and other citrus trees.
