Kineta is a seaside settlement of West Attica located along the Athens-Corinth Highway, 56 kilometers west of Athens. It is built on the coast of the Saronic Gulf, west of Kakia Skala (Skyronides Stones), and under the Geranian Mountains.

Kineta has one of the largest beaches of northern Saronic Gulf, which made it a popular holiday spot for Attica residents since the 1960s. A

fter the 1980s it began to acquire permanent residents that became more and more in the following decades. Kineta belongs to the municipality of Megara and has a population of 1.446 inhabitants, according to the 2011 Census.

The old Greek National Road 8 and the new Motorway 8, both connecting Athens with Corinth and the Peloponnese, pass through the town.

Its name is believed to derive from the Albanian “kenete”, which means swamp due to the small swamps that formed in the area near the beach.
