Nea Philadelphia is the seat of the Municipality of Nea Philadelphia – Nea Chalkidona, which is part of the Athens Central Sector in Attica. The previous name of the area was Podoniftis, from the homonymous stream that flows through it. In 1924, the Refugee Restoration Commission began building a refugee settlement to provide gomes to th  Asia Minor refugees.

The area of New Philadelphia is located in the northwest suburbs of Athens. Since the beginning of the previous century, urban development has significantly reduced the capital\’s nature.
