Epidaurus festival

Epidaurus is the most important ancient place of worship of the Asclepius god. It is located in the area of Lygourio (Municipality of Asklepieion, Municipality of Epidaurus) in Argolis of Peloponnese, about 30 km far from the city of Nafplio and about 13 km from Old Epidaurus.

The name Epidaurus was given to the town by its third ruler, who was also a hero of Epidaurus, Epidaurus, son of Argos and Evadnis.What makes Epidaurous so famous is that the most important sanctuary of Asclepius is about 15 km far from the city. The specific sanctuary is the most famous Asclepius throughout Greece.

It has also been an UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1988.

Epidaurus theater is the nicest and best preserved in the whole country. It was firstly designed for patients’ entertainment. It has a capacity of 13.000 spectators, is divided into two parts, the one of the 21 rows of seats for the people and the lower one, of the 34 rows of seats especially for priests and lords.
