Methoni is a town in the prefecture of Messinia. It is located 11 km south of Pylos and 11 km west of Foinikounta. It belongs to the municipality of Pylos-Nestor, while in the past it was the seat of the homonymous municipality. At the 2001 census it had 1.149 inhabitants.

Methoni castle was built by the Venetians in 1209 AC when they became rulers of the city. It is considered to be one of the most important castles in Greece. It is built on a rock that penetrates the sea and is separated from the land by an artificial ditch. It has an area of 93 acres.

Near the castle entrance, in the Syngrou Square, on the main street, there is a Venetian well and the primary school, donated by Andreas Syngros. The whole settlement of Methoni has been characterized as a traditional one.
