Paleros, formerly called Zaverda (until 1928), is a small town in the municipality of Aktio-Vonitsa, the seat of the former municipality of Cekropia (later Palairos) in the former Xiromero province of Aitoloakarnania.

According to the 2001 census, it now has a population of 2.474 inhabitants, but in 1971 it had 1.873 inhabitants, and in 1981 it had 2.039, that shows a slight increase during the previous years.

The most important site in the area is the Ancient City of Palairos, located in Kechropoula in the Southeast of Hersonissos. The city is believed to have existed since the Mycenaean period.
