Petroupoli is an urban area and municipality of the Western Sector of Athens in the Attica Region, developing on the outskirts of Mount Athos. The settlement is located south of Attiki Odos, west of Kifissos Avenue and Thivon Avenue and is served by the main streets of March 25th, Eastern Romilia and Perikleous, it also borders Ilion and Peristeri. Its population in 2011 was estimated at 58.979 people and its area at 6.597 square meters, with a density of 8.940 inhabitants per square meter.

Petroupoli consisted of forest, rural and livestock areas while later, in the early 1950s, urban development in the area replaced the farmland and continued until the late 1990s. It starts at 114 meters altitude and some houses reach about 215-225 meters. Today the eastern and central part of the municipality is more urbanized.
