Metamorfosi (also known as Koukouvaounas) is a labor settlement in the western part of Athens northern sector, at the foot of Mount Parnitha. The city is mainly served by the Athens-Lamia national road. Administratively it belongs to the Region of Attica – regional unit of the North Sector of Athens.

The former name Koukouvaounas, which changed on January 17, 1957 to Metamorfosi, remains popular and widespread, especially among the city\’s oldest residents. The current municipality is located south of Kifissia and is 12 kilometers far from the Athens city center. The city’s area covers almost an extent of 9 square kilometers.

Metamorfosi was initially, under the administration of the City of Athens until 1934. From 1934 to 1971 it was recognized as an Autonomous Metamorfosi Community, until it was finally recognized as the Municipality of Metamorfosi in 1972. It has an average elevation of 200 meters.

Today, the city has evolved into an integrated modern municipality, with commercial shops, many parks, squares and sports facilities.
